Anyone for Tennis...? Ball massage that is...
Achs and pain can be a part of getting fit but you can ease some of the pain with the humble tennis ball.
Always make sure your muscle are warm before you do any massaging. Either with a little exercise or hot shower or bath. Having warm muscle will increase the benefits of the massage.
Lets start with the Mid Back
Place a tennis ball against the wall between you and the wall. (you can even freeze the ball I am told to get a cooling effect)
If you put the ball into a tube sock this too helps you to keep the ball in place and not keep dropping out onto the floor. (I learnt this one recently when I was constantly dropping the ball out )
So once you have the ball in the right spot for where you want to relieve. You then just either squat up and down or move allowing the ball to roll around to hit all the right places.
If you lean back onto the tennis ball you will find tender spots slowly roll over them taking care not to press too heavy or cause too much discomfort we don't want to be causing bruises.
For your Lower back or Butt
Put the ball lower down and move around keeping the ball between you and the wall. Remember Never push through pain. You may find tender spots but it should never go into pain.
The techniques you can use can vary depending on what you feel or need.
Another great use for a tennis ball is giving relief from sciatica pain.
Try sitting on a firm surface, like a chair and place the tennis ball under you bottom, on the side you have the pain.
By varying the angle that you sitting on the ball will vary the impact it will have on your bottom. Sometimes the tennis ball can be a little hard if this happens try something much softer like a noted up sock.
